Helpful Links for Photographers

Here are some great resources  for photographers that I have found. Its the photography gear that I use and the links I look at often.

Dealnews.com – This is where I go to find deals on memory cards. They are always linked to most the websites. So if you need some cards, go here and search it out. They also have a whole link just for cameras.

Canon – I’m a Canon guys. Before digital I was a Hasselblad and Contax guy. I also shot quite  a bit of 4×5 Large format. But know there is no point. I have a pile of tilt shift lenses and Zoom lenses covering a good range. What do I use? I have the 24-70mm F2.8, I love this and used this the most. Canon 70-200mm 2.8 – great telephoto. I borrow the 16-35mm some times but I use the 17-40mm often. I can’t tell a huge difference between them. But I should do more tests.

Alien Bees – I love these lights. After trying 3 different brands of strobes, there are my favorite. Also, this is the sweetest ringflash that I have found. I have a ringflash that I picked up from them. Also I have some of their lights and really like them a lot. They are super compact and light. Also they have really good light stands, they are really stable, you can put softboxes on your strobes and put them 13′ up and they are really stable. I don’t recommend smaller stands than 13 footers. They get much more unstable.

White Lightning Lights – The same maker as the Alien Bees, but these are just a little bit nicer. Made from medal and they have a 2000 watt per second light. The x3200.

Bogen Stacker Stands – Amazing! They are compact and sturdy. I also use the 13′ Paul Buff stands. But these are my favorite.

Pictureline – If you live in Salt Lake and you need to buy any photography gear. These guys are the most helpful. Sometimes they are a little overpriced, but they have been good and coming down a little bit. Also if anything goes wrong with you cameras and stuff, they really treat you good and make things right. I recommend working with Berkly. He is super on the ball and know what’s going on.

B & H Photo – This is the first time I found out that Inkleys is ripping us off. I buy most things from these guys. Or at least check prices here first. Everywhere else is over priced compared to these guys.

Adorama – Like B&H, but really just another option.

Epson – I have been printing on the Epson 9900 lately. It is amazing! For fine art printing it is really the only way to go. From my experience, so far, this is the best printing that I have seen.

KEH – Camera Broker- instead of using ebay, if you want something used and don’t want to bid for weeks on it. It really is easier to just buy it from these guys. There ratting system on their equipment  is really good. I usually go for the ‘ex’ condition items. They are usually in really good shape when they show up. Also it is an amazing place to buy filters. You can get $60 filters for $15.

Calumet Photo - I occasionally buy stuff from these guys. As far as photography stores go they are pretty great. They also have really good Calumet branded items. I used Calument branded Bowens radio slave that I got from them and have loved them. I also use their large reflective  panel that they sell. It was the best money I have ever spent on photo gear.

Amvona – This is a good place to get cheep soft boxes and lighting stuff. It is not all quality, some of it is. But overall it is kind of cheap stuff. I recently got a tripod and monopod from these guys. Really they are pretty good. I also hvae some C-Stands that I picked up from them that are great. But they don’t seem to carry them anymore.

Flickr – Here is a great link to a photography network. It is were photographers network and give each other feedback.
